MAY GIBBS MEMORIAL LIBRARY
Information
for parents
The library is open every day before school, from 8.45
- 9.15 and second half of lunch, 1.20 - 1.45.
Parents are very welcome to visit at these times also.
Some parents like to have their own borrowing card, and can borrow whatever
they like. We have a set of syllabuses available for you to borrow, including
Child
Protection Education. Syllabuses are also available on the Board of
Studies website. http://www.bosnsw-k6.nsw.edu.au.

Years K-3 have a weekly book exchange in class time. Children
use a library bag. Bags with the school crest are available from the uniform
shop, or you may choose to make your own unique bag. Make sure the child's
name is on it.
Years 4 - 6 have flexible scheduling, which means that
teachers book their classes in whenever they need to use the library. They
may have several sessions in a row when they start something new. Their
borrowing is carried out more on a needs basis. K-3 may also book in for
additional sessions when needed. The library provides open access, which means that students
from all classes K-6 may use the library in small groups or individually
at any time during the day. As well as providing a rich variety of recreational
reading, the library supports the school's integrated information skills
program. Teachers cooperatively plan and teach their units with the teacher-librarian,
so that information seeking is built into Human
Society and the Environment or Science
and Technology units. Skill development is carried out within
these tasks.
You can view the school's information
skill continuum, and the way that skills are integrated
into units in a scope and sequence chart.
Your feedback is welcome. End of year Stocktake
